Live Your Best Life
Updated: Apr 1, 2019
We are constantly juggling responsibilities and personal goals. Today's quick-paced world and economic strains demand development of a personal narrative. Think about the roles you play: individual, employee, parent, spouse, friend, a member of society, etc. It may begin to appear that we are splitting into different versions of who we truly are at our core in order to keep up with demands. The exciting news is that during this technologic boom and millennial resistance to convention, there are a number of ways to create your vision of the future. It is possible to merge various roles into a multi-faceted powerful being. You are the experiences, ideas, and voice during any given situation. You are able to create the life you have dreamed.
In psychology, self-actualization is a pinnacle of achieving balance within and in relation to the external world. The ideal is to live cohesively and authentically. Imagine what it would look like to carry yourself through every situation with the intention of being your truest self. This requires reflection of your needs, who you wish to be, and what is most important to you. Consider what areas of your life could use improvement and how to use your strengths to meet your needs. Affirm your values by completing tasks to build mastery whether your top priority is family, career, spirituality, education, travel, or perhaps all of the above. There are no limits to your potential.
How do you know what your values are?
Begin with observation. Consider what you choose to spend your time and energy doing. Is that activity enhancing or hindering who you want to become? Eliminate activities that drain you. Replace that time with a new activity or goal to achieve. Explore your interests. Discover what naturally speaks to your heart. Remember to have fun! Self-improvement is a lifelong inspiring process. The more you take care of yourself, the more energy you will have to accomplish your goals. Participate in activities that speak to your spirit. Take that dance class. Go see that play. Buy a bicycle and relive the thrills of childhood. Cook at home and prepare a meal for your partner. Increase the quality of your life and watch the energy you produce increase. You are living your story right now. Make everyday count.
If you want to be successful with a particular goal, break down that goal into small steps, and then schedule deadlines to complete each step. Hold yourself accountable to meet deadlines, and reward yourself when the goal has been met. The reward does not have to be large, but it is important as a way to congratulate yourself on a job well done. Thank yourself for making the effort to check an item off your to-do list.
Here’s how to be the best version of you:
Practice positive affirmations to increase confidence. You are capable!
Choose a role model and write a list of characteristics you like about that person. Then, act to embody those characteristics.
Make healthy lifestyle choices (i.e. sleeping, eating, exercising).
Think about 5 things you are grateful for at the end of each day.
Avoid drama and surround yourself with positive trustworthy supports.
